Kintsugi is the ancient Japanese art of mending ceramic bowls using gold to highlight the cracks. The philosophy imbued in the process and artifact is that breakages add to the beauty of the object. In this series I have applied a similar technique to paintings. By painting on mirrors i am able to produce highly defined representational realist images that can then be shattered. The repair is a reference to rebirth and resurrection offering an optimistic narrative of hope in dark times.
